I found a particularly interesting article today over on Canva on design trends for 2016. So, let’s take a closer look at two designs that I just loved.
The first was this logo design for the restaurant named “The Swan and Mallard.” What a sophisticated use of negative space! First there’s the mallard..that is a part and apart from the black background. Next, the white ampersand. But wait, that’s the swan caressing the mallard. . I just love the use of both space and line here.
Designers concepts are available here Alas…there is no restaurant to embrace this logo.
Next – a flat design that actually creates a sense of depth!
For all my espousal of clean, simple design, I’m really not a fan of the flat design trend as usually rendered. The proposed weather app shown here defies that. Now, I love the use of tone on tone design. But here, the designer takes it further giving it a sense of depth. I think that I would attribute it to both a stylish use of colors AND form. It’s not the usual boring flat design.
